SVMS - Sustainable Visitors Management System

Tourist destinations face the challenge of efficiently managing visitor flows, particularly in areas with high levels of tourist activity. The concentration of people in certain locations can create mobility issues, increase environmental impact, and affect both the quality of life of local residents and the experience of those visiting the area.

In this context, intelligent solutions are needed to anticipate and manage visitor movements, encourage more sustainable transport alternatives, and promote a more balanced, responsible tourism model tailored to the needs of each destination.

Sustainable Visitors Management System (SVMS) is an innovative project that uses technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence to improve tourist flow management and promote more sustainable mobility.

Through tokenisation and intelligent data analysis, the system was designed to provide personalised recommendations to visitors and optimise transport routes according to demand and the capacity of different locations. In this way, the project aims to encourage the use of public transport, reduce pressure on the busiest areas, and improve the tourist experience.

The project's pilot test was carried out at Viladecans The Style Outlets, where the application of these technologies was explored in a real-world environment, with the aim of facilitating their potential implementation in other areas of Catalonia, in collaboration with public administrations.

1. Main Objective

The main objective of the project is to transform visitor flow management through technology, promoting more sustainable tourist mobility, reducing environmental impact, and improving the visitor experience, while contributing to a better balance between tourism activity and the well-being of the local area.

2. Specific Objectives

  1. Intelligent Data Management: Use advanced technologies to analyse mobility patterns and visitor flows, enabling more efficient demand-based management.
  2. Sustainable Mobility: Encourage the use of public transport and more sustainable mobility alternatives to reduce the environmental impact of tourist travel.
  3. Visitor Flow Optimisation: Improve the distribution of visitors according to demand and the capacity of different locations, helping to reduce overcrowding in high-traffic areas.
  4. Personalisation of the Tourist Experience: Provide tailored recommendations and suggestions to each visitor through intelligent data analysis, with the aim of enhancing their experience.
  5. Positive Impact on the Territory: Encourage more responsible tourism behaviours that contribute to environmental sustainability and the well-being of local communities.

3. Participants

The SVMS project was driven by the Tech Tourism Cluster and originated from its working group specialising in blockchain and Web3, which focuses on promoting the application of these technologies to improve the competitiveness of the tourism sector.

The companies INLEA, NubemSystems and MyLegalInbox participated in the development of this initiative, contributing to innovation and the implementation of new technological solutions in the sector.

The pilot test was carried out at Viladecans The Style Outlets
, where the potential of this system to improve mobility management and visitor flows was explored in a real-world environment.

4. Support and Funding

The SVMS project was funded through the Grants for Strategic Change and Growth Projects scheme, under the 2024 call launched by ACCIÓ
, the agency for business competitiveness of the Government of Catalonia. This scheme was previously known as Competitiveness Enhancement Initiatives.
