The Tech Tourism Cluster has participated in a study mission to Bavaria organized by ACCIÓ, alongside representatives from twelve Catalan clusters spanning various economic sectors. During two working days in the city of Augsburg, the delegation was able to learn firsthand about one of Europe's most advanced innovation ecosystems, identify best practices, and explore new opportunities for collaboration between Catalonia and Bavaria in strategic areas for business transformation.
The first day took place at the Augsburg Innovation Park, where participants shared experiences with Bavarian clusters specialized in digitalization, health, mobility, sustainability, and advanced manufacturing. The sessions enabled knowledge exchange on cluster management, internationalization strategies, corporate participation in innovation projects, the green and circular economy, and the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence to boost competitiveness across different sectors. The delegation also learned about Augsburg's renowned water management system, a pioneering model of sustainability recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The second day delved into some of the main drivers of Bavaria's digital transformation. Participants visited the Walter Innovation Campus, where they discovered the work carried out by the AI Production Network Augsburg, an initiative that promotes the application of artificial intelligence to industrial processes to improve company efficiency and competitiveness. The mission also included a visit to XITASO GmbH, a company specialized in the development of digital solutions and systems integration, as well as the Digitales Zentrum Schwaben (DZ.S), one of the region's main digital startup incubators, which supports new entrepreneurial projects and fosters technological innovation.
Throughout both days, experiences were also shared regarding the application of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, cybersecurity, data spaces, and new innovation ecosystems, highlighting the importance of collaboration between companies, research centers, public administrations, and clusters to accelerate the development of high-impact solutions.
The exchange of experiences with the participating Catalan clusters and the stakeholders of the Bavarian ecosystem represents a valuable source of inspiration to drive future collaborative projects that contribute to building a more connected tourism sector.
