In this series of interviews, we explore the synergy between technological companies in the tourism field and their membership in the recently created Tech Tourism Cluster, which is established as a driving force for boosting the competitiveness of companies to develop its strategic axes through the dissemination of knowledge in innovation, support for the internationalization of companies, the development of a future hybrid talent between technology and tourism, the commitment to the sustainable development of the sector and support in the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the territory.
On this occasion we were able to speak with Mauro Rilova, cofounder and partner in the fiscal area of MyLegalInbox. With more than 15 years of experience in the profession, he has held the position of tax director in several multinational corporations. During all this time he has acquired extensive experience in tax advice related to the tourism industry, focused on tax planning projects for national and international investments (Middle East, European Union and Latin America), risk assessment in Due Diligence processes and advice for VAT purposes regarding the application of the Special Regime of Travel Agencies, MICE and additional provision four.
MyLegalInbox is one of over 80 members of the Tech Tourism Cluster, can you please tell us briefly about the main elements of your organization?
MyLegalInbox is an office that provides legal and tax advice highly specialized in the TravelTech sector. Our mission is to keep up to date with the latest legislative and fiscal developments to safeguard the interests of companies in the sector.
From Blockchain to data privacy, going through the legal specifications of AI or supporting companies to internationalize companies. Here are some examples of the topics we cover. Without a doubt, our specialization in companies focused on tourism technology gives us a unique advantage in deeply understanding the business, anticipating legal risks and communicating effectively with technical roles by sharing specialized language.
In this way, we are able to adapt our consulting services to the different cases arising from a key subsector to provide specific solutions adapted to our clients.
How is your participation in this tourism technology cluster contributing to the improvement of innovation and development of your company or organization?
For us, the Tech Tourism Cluster stands as the ideal platform to launch the message that we are present to help companies in the sector in all the legal and fiscal challenges they may have and also those arising from their international expansion, in an easy way and close
Our firm goes beyond the traditional role of legal professionals, becoming a leader in legal and tax services for companies in the TravelTech sector.
Thanks to the initiatives of the entity, which is committed to the development of innovation and the constant improvement of the competitiveness of our companies, we have been able to establish relationships with reference companies in tourism technology in the territory participating in all kinds of established sessions on the agenda of the Cluster.
To give some examples, during the last few months, we had the opportunity to open our first international office in Colombia, after our active participation in the ANATO Bogota fair, where the Cluster set up a stand so that Catalan companies could sell our services in Latin America.
In addition, in joint collaboration with the entity, we have launched the TechTur Legal Series, a series of virtual sessions where we try to add value to the rest of the partners, sharing our knowledge and dealing with topics of interest to them in the legal field and tax TravelTech.
In the context of this Cluster, what collaboration and networking opportunities have already presented themselves for your company in terms of new projects or strategic alliances?
As we said, the Tech Tourism Cluster continuously gives us spaces and the platform we need to make our services known to companies in the sector.
Within the entity, we stand as an ideal travel companion through which to support the Cluster in all legal areas in the projects to be developed with the rest of the partners.
Not much can be shared yet, but through the Blockchain and Web3 Working Group, we are already working on a project roadmap using these advanced technologies, where we will provide training sessions on legal aspects linked to cryptocurrency payments and the exchange of digital assets, as well as the creation of fully automated smart contracts.
How has the exchange of knowledge and experiences between member companies influenced the creation and adoption of more advanced technological solutions in the tourism industry or initial proposals in this area?
We have to admit that the opportunities to set up meetings to present our services that the Cluster is offering us are very good for a firm like Mylegalinbox.
We are receiving a good reception from our interlocutors, because they appreciate dialoguing with someone who speaks the same language and understands a technical language that other firms have not internalized.
Participating in the different working groups is a direct way to foster synergies and encourage the generation of collaboration agreements between partners organically, without forcing meetings or contacts, since through the exchange of knowledge itself we are able to create relationships with companies that have similar challenges in order to share solutions to them.
From the perspective of the Cluster, what main contribution does your company or organization make to the tourism technology ecosystem and the promotion of the growth of other member companies and of the Cluster itself?
What is interesting about being members of a cluster is being able to exchange value with other companies that have a similar objective and a clear vision to develop the tourism sector in the territory.
As a highly specialized legal and tax office, we provide all our knowledge to the other partners of the entity through the resolution of queries that arise, trying to anticipate situations that may pose legal and tax challenges with significant economic impact in business, in order to avoid last-minute scares and take advantage of all the opportunities that the legislation can offer us.
At the end of the day, we all work with a clear vocation to anticipate the future of the sector and we cannot leave aside the constant developments in the sector both in the technological field and in the rules that surround it.
We work closely with the operational and technological design managers to establish a fluid communication channel, which allows us to identify these aspects that are very important from a legal and fiscal point of view. It is very common for our clients to thank us to see that at last there are lawyers and tax experts who speak the same language as them, because in practice it saves a lot of time and effort for them, since they do not have to explain concepts to us which they should otherwise do.
Finally, and as previously mentioned, we try to contribute as much knowledge as possible by disseminating good practices and real cases of application in the sector to help companies improve in the implementation of legal solutions adapted to the demands of the public administration.
